
ANSA) – Reggio Calabria, February 12 – Italian Police say they arrested 65 people in the southern region of Calabria considered criminal agents of the ’Ndrangheta or Calabrian mafia accused of drug and weapons-related crimes
The accused are suspected
members of the Iamonte clan, which investigators say controlled all economic activity in and around the seaside town of Melito di Porto Salvo on the toe of Italy’s ‘boot’.
They face criminal charges of mafia association and dealing in weapons and drugs.The mayor of Melito di Porto Salvo, Gesualdo Costantino is among the many handcuffed and held.
According to authorities, the ‘Ndrangheta clan had also worked their way into the local public administration and manipulated municipal tenders
