Mindy McCready has committed suicide.
The troubled country singer better known recently for her ongoing personal troubles than for her singing, died Sunday of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound
Stacy McCloud, a reporter at FOX 17 in Nashville, broke the news when she tweeted: "A close family friend of Mindy McCready has informed me that the country singer has committed suicide."
She then tweeted: “The Mindy McCready suicide I told you about has now been confirmed from 4 different sources. A statement from the family is in the works."
In January, McCready’s life partner and Zayne’s father, singer-songwriter David Wilson died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A few weeks later, a judge ordered McCready to be committed to a treatment facility to cope with mental health and alcohol issues and her sons were placed in foster care.
McCready’s legal woes began in 2004 with an arrest for illegally obtaining OxyContin with a fake prescription.
A DUI arrest, charges with identity theft, unlawful imprisonment, hindering prosecution and a physical altercation with her mother were also added to the singer’s rap sheet.
